I am Marcus Adeyemi. I build and replatform Shopify stores for food, drink and homeware brands out of a one-room studio in Ancoats, and I stay on the phone through the first Black Friday.

How it runs

Where your order gets to

The same five stages every time, and you always know which one you are in.

01

Day 0

Order placed

Ninety minutes on a call, then a written scope with a price on it. Nothing starts until you have signed that.

02

Week 1

Picked

Theme, apps and integrations chosen and justified in writing. This is the week I argue you out of the ones you do not need.

03

Weeks 2 - 5

Packed

The build, in your own staging store. A link every Friday afternoon, your notes back on Monday, and no surprises in between.

04

Launch week

Dispatched

Redirects, DNS, payments and a rehearsed cutover, done on a Tuesday morning. Never on a Friday, never before a bank holiday.

05

30 days on

Delivered

A month of me watching your numbers and fixing whatever the first thousand real orders find.

Who you are actually buying from

One person, named, with a phone number and a fixed price.

Marcus Adeyemi at his desk in Ancoats

I have been building shops since 2018, most of that on Shopify, all of it for brands small enough that the founder still answers the email. Before that I spent four years in an agency being the one who got called in after the launch party, when the store had been live a fortnight and the numbers had gone the wrong way.

That is where the habits came from. I write the scope before I write the code, I ship on Tuesday mornings, and I will not put an app on your store that I cannot explain the cost of in a sentence.

I take two clients at a time. It means I know your catalogue, your peak weekend and your worst supplier by name - and it means picking up the phone on a Saturday in November is not a favour, it is the job.

He talked us out of half of what we asked for

We arrived with a list of twelve apps we were sure we needed and left with three. The store is quicker than the one we paid four times as much for two years ago, and I understand every part of it.

Picked up the phone on Black Friday

Nine in the evening on the busiest day of our year, a payment gateway fell over, and Marcus was on it before our own alert email had landed. That one hour is why we renewed without asking the price.

The migration was the boring weekend we were promised

Fourteen years of Magento and 2,100 URLs. He rehearsed the whole cutover twice, then did it on a Tuesday morning while I watched. Traffic in the following month was within a percent of the one before.

Slower to start than the agencies, better by the end

He spent the first fortnight asking our warehouse questions instead of designing, which felt indulgent at the time. Then trade orders went up sixty percent because the reorder pad was built around how buyers actually work.

The small print

Terms, plainly

The five things people ask on the call, answered before the call.

Delivery

Six to twelve weeks depending on the build. I hold one start date a month and I do not double-book it, so the date you are given is the date.

Returns

If the first two weeks are not what the scope promised, you stop there and pay for those two weeks only. It has happened once in eight years.

Ownership

The store, the theme repository and every account are in your name from day one. Nothing on your site is hostage to me still being here.

How long until my store is actually live?

A launch build takes six weeks from the day the scope is signed. A replatform takes ten to twelve, and most of that is data and redirects rather than design. If you need it faster than that, say so on the call and I will tell you honestly whether it is possible rather than finding out in week nine.

What do you need from me?

Product data in a spreadsheet, your photography, and about two hours a week. The two hours are the part everyone underestimates: I send a staging link every Friday afternoon and the build only moves as fast as your notes come back on Monday.

Who owns everything afterwards?

You do, from the first day. The Shopify organisation is in your name, the theme lives in your own GitHub repository, and every third-party app is billed to your card rather than mine. If you replace me next year, the handover is an afternoon.

Do I have to keep paying you after launch?

No. Thirty days of aftercare are already in the price, and a care plan after that is optional. About half my clients take one and the other half email me twice a year, which is completely fine and always has been.

Will you work with my existing agency or freelancer?

Often, yes. I have shared a codebase with brand designers, a Klaviyo specialist and two different warehouse teams. What I will not do is take over a build somebody else is halfway through without a fortnight to read it properly first.
